Knaphill Klean Up ~ Saturday 5th April KRA Community Event

Fifty five bags full !!                        The Volunteers get ready.......                                    Mucky work.....!!

59 Volunteers came along to help....... people of all ages; from all parts of Knaphill and all sections of the community; the common element was that everyone who helped was keen to remove the mess and litter that spoil some parts of Knaphill.

We collected 55 BAGS FULL of LITTER....... plastic bags, bottles, cans, discarded food, boxes and containers from Take Away food outlets, sweet wrappers, cigarette boxes and a vast amount of cigarette stubs.

A lot of this litter seems to come from the style of eating that is so common now; people eat away from home and many of them just throw the leftovers and the containers onto our streets, or into a bush or some ones garden as they go past. When you think about it, this is disgusting behaviour. In Knaphill there are bins, but many people cannot seem be bothered to walk a few metres to use them.

The Teams cleared up along High Street, Co Op Car Park, Vyne Car Park, Broadway, Sussex Road and Play area, down past the Scout Hall, Waterers Car Park and Play Area, down Anchor Hill, along Nursery Road and up Beechwood Road. For a few hours many of the streets of Knaphill were cleaner than any of us had seen them for years.

The event was not all work....the Volunteers went back to The Kings House Coffee Shop in the High Street afterwards to freshen themselves up before tucking in to slices of pizza (donated by Milano Pizza), Hot-X buns (donated by Stefs Bakery) and other refreshments, mugs of tea and cold drinks provided by KRA and The Coffee Shop. It was a GREAT COMMUNITY EVENT bringing people together, achieving results and having a good time!!

We must be crazy, but many of the Volunteers are keen to do it again!! KRA plans to hold other events to work on issues that are important to Knaphill residents. Please come along and join us. Crazy about Knaphill? Join the KRA!!

Kate & Eileen check the bags!!               Lib.Dems & Conservatives, all help welcome.        Well Done to all the Volunteers!!
